Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) the ratification instrument of ILO Convention number 185 on the seafarer identity document revisions to the ILO Director General of the end of this weekend.

Convention is an instrument to provide protection and convenience for the seamen in the profession by using the identity berstandar international seamen.

In addition, a convention that is binding to the comprehensive security system that includes a tool that allows biometrik to identify the party that holds the document in question.

On occasion, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia said that the ratification of the Convention will strengthen the commitment of the Indonesian Government to provide protection to the seamen of a number of growing and are in all corners of the world, including efforts in cooperation with ILO.

Currently, Indonesia is the largest provider of employment for seamen in the world among countries that have ratified Convention 185.

Meanwhile Somavia welcomed the decision to Indonesia ratified ILO Convention number 185.

According to the Director General of the ILO, a decision that shows the commitment of Indonesia to ensure the work is eligible for Indonesian seamen while contributing to the progress of maritime security.

Also appreciate the commitment of the Government of Indonesia has ratified the main ILO Conventions eight.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on 4 January 2008 has passed the ILO Convention No. Revising the 185 concerning Seafarers Identity Documents Convention in 1958 through Law Number 1 Year 2008/Lembaran Country Number 1 Year 2008.

Ratification instrument was signed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda on 2 May 2008. Disahkannya law is expected to strengthen the protection of seamen who spread across Indonesia over the world.

ILO Conventions are international treaties that need to diratifikasi by all ILO member countries. Indonesia has been a member of the ILO since 1950 and is the first Asian country and the fifth country in the world that has ratified all major ILO conventions. By ratifying Convention 185 so far Indonesia has ratified 18 ILO Conventions. (antara news)
