In passenger ships it is the duty of certain crew members, specified on the muster list, to ensure that all the passengers have correctly donned their life jackets. the ship's emergency alerting equipment including EPIRBs and SARTs. regular maintenance of the equipment is an important part of the life saving regime. Illumination in launching areas.
Onboard of this ship(dam ships) there 2 different alarms:
On-load and off-load lifeboat releasing systems and their safety implications. the importance of the safety briefing, or familiarisation tour, for relief crew. Where to find and how to operate the line throwing apparatus. Helicopter operations including planning the operation. Helicopter rescue gear including strop, sling stretcher and hiline. Seafarers should take every opportunity to participate positively in all training courses and onboard drills or exercise.
On muster list, you can find where you have to report for the various emergencies(alarms)
and which task are assigned to various crew members.Onboard of this ship(dam ships) there 2 different alarms:
Fire alarm
This is at least 3times short-long on the ship's whistle, accomapanied by the same signal ion the electrical alarms throughout the ships.
During a fire there are a lot of different task assigned to various crew members. some are assigned to fire squads, other to the rescue squad etc. most of us.
however just have to continue with whatever it was that you were doing, unless other instructions are given to you over the P.A system.
Abandon ship alarm
This last 7short blasts followed by 1 long blast on the ship's whistle, accompanied by the same signal on the electrical alarms throughout the ship.
Whenever hear this signal, go immediately to our cabin, put on appropriate clothing and proceed to your lifeboat or life raft station, here all crew and pax will be checked off by your commander and you wiil receive further instruction...(my opinion:this procedure may takes a lot of times, it will work during drill but not in actual incidents itself..recommended to prepare of spare warm clothes. in the ammount sufficients at least the same ammount with spare live vest and place its arround embarkation deck)
Throughout the ship, next to the muster list, you will also find safety plans. on these safety plans we see a drawing of each deck of the ship, indicating where all the safety and life saving equipmen is located on each of those decks(like fire hoses, fire extinguishers, live bouys etc>)...(various sources)
